Item I leave my land in the County of Greenville to be sold to pay my debts also my land in Isle of White to be sold and the money to be equally divided between all my children namely, Patsey Britt, Joseph Britt and Asenath Britt, Nancy Britt and Benjamin Britt, Matthew Britt and Merit Britt. Item I lend my plantation whereon I now live and all my negros and Stock of all kinds and all my personal estate to my loving wife Catron Britt during her natural life or widowhood and then all except my plantation to be sold and equally to be divided amonst my children above mentioned, and my plantation and land whereon I now live to be equally divided between my four sons Joseph Britt, Benjamin Britt, Matthew Britt and Merrit Britt to them and their heirs forever. And lastly I do appoint my brother Britton Britt and my son Joseph Britt my whole and sole Executors of this my last will and testament. I do revoke all other wills heretofore made by me and I do establish this to be my last will and Testament, In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & affixed my seal this twentye & ninth day of January Anno Dom 1796. Signed and Sealed in presents of Benjamin Allen Matthew Britt [seal] Elizabeth (X) Mias At a Court held for Southampton County January the 16th 1809. This last will and testament of Matthew Britt deceased was proved by the oaths of Benjamin Allen and Elizabeth Mias witnesses thereto and is ordered to be recorded. And in the motion of Joseph Britt and Britain Britt he executor therein named who made oath according to law. Probate is granted them thereof is due form on giving Security, whereupon.
