Amen. I Thomas E Britt, of Southampton County, Virginia, being of sound and disposing mind do make this to be my last will and testament. 1st. I desire that all of my just debts, including my funeral expenses, be paid out of my estate as soon after my decease as may be convenient. 2nd. I reserve the burying ground of one acre, for the use of the family, with right of ingress & egress. 3rd. I give to Nancy L Mercer, one hundred dollars in money, one bed, one rocking chair, six feay bottom chairs, one cook stove and the live stock I may have at the time of my death including animals and fowls. 4th I give to Jese E Britt one hundred dollars in money. 5th I give to Nancy L Mercer during her life my house and farm where I now reside and at her death I give it to Jese Britt (son of Jese E Britt). 6th I give all the residue of my Estate not herein provided for to my brother Josiah Britt. 7th It is my desire that J C Davis shall be my Administrator. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 10th day of July in the year of our Lord 1893. Thomas E Britt [seal] Witnessed by: Thos L Bain R T Whitfield W N Johnson Southampton County Court March 18, 1895 A writing purporting to be the last will and testament of [page break] Thomas E Britt, decd, was produced in Court and proved by the oaths of Thos L Bain and E W Johnson two of the subscribing witnesses thereto the said Thomas E Britt, deceased. And on motion of J C Davis, the Executor therein named, who made oath according to law and to his sufficiency entered into and acknowledged as the law directed which bond is ordered to be recorded. Certificate is granted the said J C Davis for obtaining a probate of the said will in due form. There is a Nancy Louisa Mercer daughter of John Mercer and Nancy Doyal. Have not found a connection between Nancy Mercer and Thomas Britt as yet (5 Nov 2007].
