SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY, VA - WILLS AND ESTATES - Benjamin Butts --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Will: Benjamin Butts, St. Lukes Parish, Southampton Co, VA IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN, I Benjamin Butts of the County of Southampton & Parish of Lukes being low in body but of perfect mind & memory do hereby make & ordain this to be my last will and testament in manner & form following, viz: I lend to my loving wife Elizabeth Butts the use of my plantation wherein I now live during her natural life and after her death to be divided by a line beginning at the rivers old landing from thence along this path by my dwelling house from thence along the said old path to my line of mark'd trees from the creek to the Poston Swamp giving my son Robert Butts that part my dwelling house stands on to him & his heirs forever. The other part to my son Benjamin Butts to him & his heirs forever. I also lend to my wife Elizabeth Butts all my negros, household & kitchen furniture together (with) my stock of all kinds and plantation utensils, until my children shall severally arrive to the age of twenty one or marry, then for them to receive such proportion as hereafter mentioned? (word "mentioned" is at end of the line and very tiny writing, so could be wrong) I give to my daughter Polly Butts, Peg, Hulday, Simmon & their future increase to her & her heirs forever. I give to my daughter Lucy Butts, Doll, Beck, Jaffry & their future increase to her & her heirs forever. I give to my son Benjamin Butts, Frank, Selah, Wagis and their future increase to him and his heirs forever., Also my chest of tools, my horse, five head of cattle, two sows & pigs, five head of sheep, and one feather bed, five hundred pounds meet pork and twenty barrels corn to him & his heirs forever. I give to my son Robert Butts, Harry, Abram & Set & their future increase to him & his heirs forever. Also my still, five head of cattle, five head of sheep, one horse. Two sows & pigs, one feather bed, twenty barrels of corn & five hundred pounds of meet pork to him & his heirs forever. I give to daughter Jenny Butts, Luck, Silvy, Wanny & their future increase to her & her heirs forever. Also one feather bed to her & heirs forever. I give to my son Benjamin Butts the sum of fifteen pounds current money to build him a house to him & his heirs forever. I give to my daughter Polly Lewis Butts one feather bed to her & heirs forever. I give to my daughter Lucy Butts one feather bed to her & heirs forever. It is my will and desire is that after the death of my wife Elizabeth Butts is that all the residue of my estate shall be equally divided between my five children: Polly Butts, Benjamin Butts, Lucy Butts, Robert Butts & Jenny Butts, to them & their heirs forever. Lastly, I do nominate & appoint my loving wife Elizabeth Butts Executrix, my friend Zebulon Lewis, & my brother Daniel Butts, my Executors to this my Last Will & Testament revoking & making nul & void all Wills heretofore made by me.
