Hardy GLORIAFHARDY@worldnet.att.net ****************************************************** In the name of God Amen I PHILLIP CLAUD of Southampton County being in perfect health and memory and calling to mind that it is ordered for all men once to dye do ordain this to be my last will and testament in the following manner and form. First of all I recommend my Soul to God that gave it {to} me and my body to be decently buried at the discretion of my executors. Item. I give and bequeath unto my two sons Newitt and Joshua all my lands containing four hundred and thirty acres more or less in the following manner The Manor plantation to my son Joshua Claud to him and his heirs forever to be bounded. Thus beginning at the north of Harrisons Branch up that Branch to a marked Pine from thence to a line of marked Trees to a pine stump in the Green Pond Branch, likewise, Two Negroes JENNY and WINNY to him and his heirs forever. Item I give to my son Newett Claud two Negroes LYD and BEN to him and his heirs forever. My will and desire is that my Wife Elizabeth Claud shall have the use of my plantation during her life or widowhood, likewise two Negroes TOM and NAN and at my Wife's death `or marriage my whole estate to be sold and equally divided between two sons Newett and Joshua. I appoint my Wife Elizabeth Claud, John Claud and Jeremiah Drew my Executors of this my last will and Testament in witness whereof show where unto set my hand and seal this 25 January 1773.
