SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY, VA - WILLS AND ESTATES - Matthew Charles, 21 Feb 1794 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Will: Matthew Charles, Nottoway Parish, Southampton Co, VA (1794) IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN, I Matthew Charles of the County of Southampton & Parish of Nottoway, being of sound perfect and disposing mind & memory & calling to mind the uncertainty of this transitory life and knowing that it is appointed for all men to die, do think proper to make this my last will and testament in manner & form as follows: Item: I give the use of all my estate of what nature or kind soever unto my loving wife Mary Charles during her natural life or widowhood. Item: I give unto my grand daughter Margaret Joyner one feather bed & furniture to her and heirs forever. Item: I give unto my son Jethro Charles all my necessary tools & all my conveniences for the use of the orchard & one feather bed & furniture, also one large pot to him & his heirs forever, also one pair flat irons in the same manner as is above mention'd. Item: I give unto my grandson William Charles one gun to him & his heirs forever. Item: I give all the residue of my estate unto Martha Joyner excepting my lands to her & her heirs forever. Item: I give & bequeath unto my son Jethro Charles all my land & plantation to him & his heirs forever. Lastly, I do hereby nominate constitute & appoint my son Jethro Charles & my loving wife Mary Charles Executor & Executrix of this my Last Will & Testament.
