SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY, VA - WILLS AND ESTATES - John Calthorp, 14 Apr 1783 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN this 14th day of April 1783 I John Calthorp of the County of Southampton being of sound and disposing mind and memory do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following, viz: First and foremost I recommend my soul to almighty God who gave it in hope of joyfull resurrection of the same and as for my worldly goods, I dispose of as followeth: Imprimis: Item: I give to my son John Calthorpe my negroe girl Celah and Lucy to him and his heirs forever. Item: I give to my son James Calthorpe all my land also one negro girl Fillis and feather bed and furniture that he commonly lies on to him and his heirs forever. Item: I give to my son Henry Calthorp my negro girl Amey and Frank, also a feather bed and furniture to him and his heirs forever. Item: I give to my son Nowell Calthorpe ten shillings. Item: I leave my two negroes Rochell and Will together with all the remainder of my estate both real and personal to be sold and the money equally divided after my just debts being paid between my three sons John, James and Henry Calthorp to them and their heirs forever. And I do hereby appoint my son John and James Calthorp whole and sole Executors of this my Last Will and Testament. (looks like "th" above Monday) This Will was proved by the oath of Thomas Turner, another witness thereto and is ordered to be recorded and on the motion of the said Executor who made oath according to law, certificate is granted him for obtaining a Probat thereof in due form giving security whereupon &c.
