SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY, VA - WILLS AND ESTATES - Lazarus Cobb, 3 Oct 1800 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN, I Lazarus Cobb Sr of Southampton County, Virginia, being in a low state of health but, thanks be to almighty God, sound in mind & memory, do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following, to wit: First: I give unto my son Josiah Cobb the plantation whereon he now lives with one hundred and forty acres land adjoining William Hascums land and land which was my brother Henry Cobbs line but so as not to effect the land herein given to my son Nicholas Cobb, to him and his heirs forever. Item: I give to my son Lazarus Cobb the land and plantation whereon he now lives containing one hundred forty acres adjoining the land that was my brother Henry Cobbs land and David Edwards land to him and his heirs forever. Item: I give to my son Federick my tract of land lying near the round gut and known by being called the round gut land, one black mare, one bed and furniture and one square barrell musket to him and his heirs forever. I give unto my son Nicholas Cobb, two hundred and thirty one acres land including the young orchard field towards Westers and that part of the old field above the orchard where I now live and above the following line (to wit): beginning at a bunch of grape vines standing near the upper corner of the orchard thence on eastardly cource across the field - this tract is to stand divided from the above land given to my son Lazarus by a line running as the lane now runs between the two places keeping a straight cource to the tarkiln bed and thence as they can but agree between themselves which said two hundred and thirty one acres land I give to him, the said Nicholas Cobb and his heirs forever. I also give to him one bed and furniture, one cow & calf, one gun & twenty pounds cash to be raised out of my estate and the use and benefit of the house I now live in and half the field that is now inclosed around the house until he can get a house built on his own land and no longer. I also give him the black mare which is call'd his at present. Item: I desire that the fruit in all the orchards (to wit): that where I now live that towards Westers and that on Federicks place should be saved by an equal devidend between Josiah, Federick and Nicholas Cobb for and during the term of four years & no longer. Item: I give to my daughter Mildred Cobb twelve dollars cash & one side saddle, to her and her and her heirs forever. Item: I give all the residue of my estate to be equally divided between my two sons Federick and Nicholas Cobb, to them and their heirs forever. Item: I hereby constitute and appoint my two sons Federick and Nicholas Cobb sole Executors to this my Last Will and Testament ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my true Last Will and Testament.
