Southampton County will of Demsey Cooper WB 7, pg 151 - 1812 In the name of God Amen, I Demsey Cooper of the county of Southampton being weak in body but of sound mind and disposing memory thanks be to Almighty God for the same but calling to mind the uncertainty of this life and knowing that it is appointed once for all men to die do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following. Imprimus, I give and bequeath unto my son John Cooper after marriage or death of my beloved wife Amarintha Cooper the land as follows (to wit) beginning at a white oak joyning William Lawrence's line thence down the gum pond untill it comes opposite to the south chimney of the great house, thence a straight line across between the said house and chimney to my line on the other side and all my land and plantation on the south of said crop line and at my death one young black mare, one gun and ten pounds cash to be raised out of my estate to him and his heirs forever. Item I give and bequeath unto my son Colin Cooper after marriage or death of my said wife all the remainder of my said land and plantation and one colt provided my said wife can raise it on my old mare and at my death ten pounds cash to him and his heirs forever. Item I give and bequeath unto my three daughter (viz) Elizabeth Cooper Molly Cooper and Nancy Cooper one bed and furniture each to them and their heirs forever. Item I leave the use of all and land and plantation and all the remainder of my estate of what nature or kind soever unto my said wife Amaritha Cooper during her natural life or widowhood and after her marriage or death to equally divide the same then remaining amongst all my children. Lastly I appoint my friend Jacob Darden Sen and my beloved wife Amaritha Cooper executors to this my last will and testament, revoking and disannulling all former wills and wiils by me hitherto made and allowing this and no other to be my last will and testament. Pope William Lawrence Kinchen Cobb At a court held for the county of Southampton the day of May 1812 This last will and testament of Demsey Cooper dec'd was this day presented in court proved by the oaths of William Lawrence and Kinchen Cobb two of the witnesses hereto and ordered to be recorded. Special notes: I could not read the name of the wife in the will itself, but I found a deed from Colin Cooper and mother Amarintha.
