All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ Henry DAUGHTREY, will, 1 Mar 1912 ENTIRE ESTATE IS BEQUEATHED TO WIDOW Suffolk, Va., Sept. 29. - Much interest has been created in Franklin over the finding of the will of the late Henry Daughtrey, who was believed to have died intestate. Had that been the case, his estate would have gone to a brother and several nieces and nephews. The will, written on the back of a calendar sheet of February, 1912, bearing the date of March 1, 1912, was accidentally found. It was in Mr. Daughtrey's handwriting, signed by him, and it bequeathed all of the property of the testator to a widow, Mrs. Virginia Cooper. Mrs. Peggy Daughtrey, Mrs. Cooper's mother, lived at the home of Mr. Daughtrey and took care of him. The estate is valued at about $10,000. "Virgie" [or "Jennie"] Virginia V. (DAUGHTREY; Mrs. William Frank) COOPER was Henry's half-sister, and Peggy was his step-mother. Henry seems to have been the son of William DAUGHTREY & his first wife Mary J. BEALE, who m. 21 Sep 1835. (Southampton Co. M.Reg. p. 457) However, D.Cert. 5367 (Franklin #24) gives son of William DAUGHTREY, b. Southampton Co., & Pollie FOWLER, b. Isle of Wight Co.; the informant was Mrs. Margaret DAUGHTREY. Widowed, William 2m. "Peggy" Margaret VAUGHAN 24 Mar 1864. (Southampton Co. MB1A:48; M.Reg. p. 14 #17) William d. 21 Jan 1886 of brain fever, age 78. Henry's brother James (1844 - 1917) is buried in Riverside Cemetery, Norfolk.
