SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY, VA - WILLS AND ESTATES - Joel Davis, 7 Jan 1803 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN, (I) Joel Davis of Southampton County being weak in body but of sound mind and memory do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following: 1st: I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Sally Davis one feather bed and furniure, one large chest and one side saddle, to her and her heirs forever. 2nd: I give and bequeath unto my daughter Sally Davis, one feather (bed) and furniture, one chest, one side saddle, one flax wheel, and two small trunks, to her and her heirs forever. 3rd: I give and bequeath unto my son Nathaniel Davis one feather bed and furniture, one chest and table and one mare; which he has had in possession, to him and his heirs forever. 4th: I give and bequeath unto my daughter Elizabeth Davis one feather bed and furniture, to her and her heirs forever. 5th: I give and bequeath unto my daughter Martha Davis one feather bed and furniture to her and her heirs forever. 6th: My will and desire is that after my just debts and legacies are paid, the residue of my estate should stand as it now is for the purpose of raising and schooling my two children (appears that children was crossed out and girls written in) until Martha arives to the age of thirteen? (first two letters marked over) years, at the expiration of which time my will and desire is that all my personal estate be sold and devided equally between my wife and children. 7th: Further, my will and desire is that my daughters Sally Davis, Elizabeth Davis and Martha Davis all have single life on the plantation till the death of my wife, then the plantation to be sold and the money raised from the sale thereof to be equally divided among my children. Lastly: I do hereby constitute and appoint my wife Sally Davis and my son Nathaniel Davis Executors of this my Last Will and Testament.
