SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY, VA - WILLS AND ESTATES - Samuel Drewry, 4 Feb 1789 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Wills: Samuel Drewry, Southampton Co, VA (1789) IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN, I Samuel Dreury being low and weak of body but of sound and disposing mind and memory do make and ordain this as my last will and testament revoking all former Wills by me made in manner and form following (to wit): Imprimis: I give and bequeath unto my son Samuel Drewry all that part of my tract of land whereon I now live that is bounded by the Assimonoe Swamp William Crechlows line a line of marked trees to another line of William Cretchlows bought of Joel Wood by said Crechlows line to the main road to Joel Woods line and by the said Woods line to the Assaimosoe Swamp supposed to contain two hundred acres more or less to him and his heirs forever. Secondly, I give unto my daughter Mary Salter twenty shilling. Thirdly, I give unto my grand daughter Katharine Johnson one feather bed and furniture, one chest and one cow and calf to be delivered her when she arrives at the age of eighteen years but if she dies before marriage or without lawful issue then I give the articles given her to my daughter Ann Simmons & her heirs forever. Fourthly, I give unto my wife Elizabeth Drewry the use of all the remainder of my land and plantation whereon I now live also the use and labour of my negroes Abel and Will, also the use of all the remainder of my estate of what nature or kind soever during her widowhood. Fifthly, I give unto my son James Drewry after the death or intermarriage of my wife, my negro boy Will to him and his heirs forever. Sixthly, I give unto my son Humphrey Drewry after the death or intermariage of my wife, my negro boy Abel and to his heirs forever. Seventhly, I give unto my daughter Ann Simmons after the death or intermarriage of my wife, my loom and all the slays & harness thereunto belonging also and linen wheel and one woman Goodle to her and her heirs forever. Eightly, I give and bequeath to my son Joseph Drewry after the death of my wife all that part of my land and plantation herein given, also all the remainder of my estate what nature or kind soever not before given away to him and his heirs forever, but if my son Joseph dies before he comes of age and without issue then I give the land and plantation given to him to be equally divided between my sons James and Humphrey or the heirs of their body and if either of my sons last mentioned die without issue then I give the said land & plantation to the survivor of them and their heirs forever. And in case of my son Josephs death before he comes to the age of twenty one, I desire all the remainder of my estate given him be equally divided amongst all my children. And lastly, I do hereby constitute and appoint my sons Samuel Drewry and my son-in-law Spriatly Simmons whole and sole Executors of this my Last Will (and) Testament directing no appraisement of my estate and I further desire my son Samuel to take under his immediate care the guardianship of son Joseph and that he will take care he may be educated in a manner suitable to his station in life.
