SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY, VA - WILLS AND ESTATES - Humphry Drewry, 15 Apr 1796 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- IN THE NAME OF GOD Amen, I Humphry Drewry of Southampton county being sick and weak in body but of sound mind and memory, thanks be to God for the same, that it is appointed for all men once to die, I do make constitute and appoint this my last will and testament. My soul I resign to God that gave it hoping for pardon and remission of all my sins through the merits of Jesus Christ. Item 1st: My body I resign to the earth from whence it was taken to be decently buried by my Executor hereafter mentioned. Item 2nd: I give and bequeath to my daughter Rebecca Drewry five pounds current money. Item 3rd: I give and bequeath to my daughter Mary Pond my land and plantation whereon I now live to her and her heirs forever. Also one feather bed and furniture and her choice of two cows and earlings (yearlings). Item 4th: I give and (bequeath) to my daughter Hannah Simmons one negro girl named Cherry at the value of thirty pounds which sum is to be deducted from a division of my negroes hereafter mentioned, one feather bed and furniture, to her and her heirs forever. Item 5th: I give and bequeath unto my daughter Elizabeth Drewry my negroe girl Lucy at the value of thirty pounds which is to be deducted from a division of my negroes hereafter mentioned, also one feather bed and furniture, to her and her heirs forever. Item 6th: Remainder of my estate to be sold by my Executors and the money arising therefrom to be divided in the following manner: To my daughter Hannah Simmons (deducting the thirty pounds before mentioned) one third to her and here heirs forever. Elizabeth Drewry one third (deducting the thirty pounds before mentioned) to her and her heirs forever. Item 7th: I give and bequeath to my daughter Rhody Andrews' children, the remaining one third provided she has child or children that arives to the age of twenty one years, if not, the said one third to be divided between my two daughters Hannah & Elizabeth. Item 8th: I give and bequeath to my daughter Rhoda Andrews five shillings. Item 9th: I appoint my well-beloved friends Samuel Drewry and John Pond my Executors to this my last Will and Testament; given under my hand and seal this 15th day of April 1796. Humphrey Drewry (seal) Witness: Thomas Hallcome Charles Handiford At a Court held for the County of Southampton the 17th of July 1797 This Will was prove by the oath of Thomas Halliman and continued. And At a Court held for the said county the 18th of December 1797 This Will was proved by the oath of J. Vick, another witness and ordered to be recorded. And on the motion of Samuel Drewry, one of the Executors therein named, who made oath according to law, Certificate is granted him for obtaining a Probat thereof in due form giving security (time being reserved for the other Executor). And At a Court held for the said county the 17th of July 1798 On the motion of John Pond, the other Executor therein named, who made oath according to law, Certificate is granted him for obtaining a Probat thereof in due form giving security Whereupon &c.
