SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY, VA - WILLS AND ESTATES - Elizabeth Drewry, 1800 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN, I Elizabeth Drewry of Southampton County, being very sick & weak but of perfect mind and memory, thanks be given unto God, calling unto mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all once to die, do make and ordain this my last will and testament, that is to say, principally and first of all, I give and recommend my sole into the hands of almighty God that gave it and my body I recommend to the earth to be buried in a christian like form at the discretaion of my Executors; and touching such estate that it hath pleased God to bless me with in this life, I give demiss (demise) and bequeath & dispose of the same in the following manner: Item: I give demiss (demise) & bequeath to my son John Drewry, my plantation & lands thereunto belonging containing by estimation one hundred & seventy five acres to him and his heirs forever. Item: I give demiss (demise) & bequeath to my son Amos Drewry the plantation & lands therein belonging that I bought of William Urguhaart & Joseph Vick containing, by estimation, one hundred & seventy five acres, to him and his heirs forever. Item: I give to my daughter Rachel Drewry one bed & furniture, also one loom & gear. Item: I give to my daughter Dianah Drewry one bed and furniture. Item: I give all the remainder of my estate of what nature soever to be equally divided between my eight daughters Rachel Drewry, Diannah Drewry, Lucy Drewry, Dolly Drewry, Sarah Slade, Elizabeth Hasty, Mary Love & Hannah Mackey. Item: My will and desire is that my single daughters shall remain in my house uninterrupted so long as they remain single. Lastly, I do appoint my two sons John and Amos Drewry as my whole and sole Executors to this my Last Will and Testament revoking disannulling & making void all other Wills heretofore made by me. her Elizabeth X Drewry (seal) mark Signed, sealed, published, presented and delivered by the said Elizabeth Drewry as her Last Will & Testament in the presence of us who in her presence in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names: Jacob Bradshawn Jethro X Slade mark Elijah X Hasty mark At a Court held for the County of Southampton the 18th day of October 1802 This Will was proved by the oath of Jacob Bradshaw, one of the witnesses thereto who also deposed that he saw Elijah Hasty and Jethro Slade, two other witnesses subscribe their names at the request of the parties & ordered to be recorded.
