Micajah EDWARDS (1690-1770), will dated 17 Nov 1770, proved 13 Dec 1770 

In the name of God amen  I Micajah Edwards of the Parish of Nottoway & County 
of Southampton being ['of'] perfect mind & memory do dispose of what worldly 
estate I am possessed of in manner following 

Imprimis  I give to my loving wife Elizabeth Edwards the following estate 
dureing her natural life Vizt the plantation whereon I now live runing a line 
from Nottoway river to the great oak from thence a line to the Causway on the 
new road & from thence to a pine in the Pocosson a Corner tree & from thence 
along my line to Nottoway River thence down the River to the first station 
being half of my lands I hold on Nottoway as neare as I Can guess also the 
following neg. Jack Cæsar Fagan Hecter Issabell Amey & Juno also all my 
household furniture & 4 Cows with Calf 

Item  I give & bequeath to my son Wm. Edwards the Remainder of my land 
on Nottoway River below the line given my wife known by the name of Houns it 
being half of my Land on Nottoway River as neare as I can guess  also the 3 
followin Slaves Jemmy Mingo & Ben to him & his heirs forever 

Item  I give & bequeath to my son Micajah Edwards part of my Land on Black water 
lying on Coppahonk Swamp to be devided as my 2 sons Micajah Edwards & Richard 
shall agree also the following Neg. Dick & Sampson to him & his heirs forever 

Item  I give & bequeath to my son Rich Edwards part of my Land on the black 
water, lying on the Coppohonk branch to be divided as he & his brother Micajah 
shall agree also the following Neg. Ned Abigal & Old Sarah to him & his heirs 
forever 

Item  I give & bequeath to my son Benja. Edwards after the Death of my wife 
Eliza. the Land given her also the following Neg. David & Tom to him & his heirs 
forever 

Item  I give & bequeath to my daughter Mary Butts Ten pounds to her & her heirs 
forever 

Item  I give & bequeath to my daughter Lucy Edwards one neg. Girl named Lydy to 
her & her heirs forever 

Item  I give to my daughter Elizabeth Edwards a Neg. Girl Named Fanny to her & 
her heirs forever 

Item  I give to my daughter Ann Edwards a negro Girl Named Sarah to her & her 
Heirs forever 

Item  I give to my youngest daughter not yet babtised a Negro Girl named 
Margaret to her & her heirs forever 

I desire that all my Stock of what kind soever be keept on the plantation 
untill my son Wm. shall come to age them. [sic; 'then'] he to take ¼ part the 
remainder to Continue on the other boys land each boy taking there proportion as 
they come of age the remainder to be my son Benjamin it is also my desire that 
the negroes given my wife her life after her death with their increase be 
equally divided amoungst my 8 youngest Children or the survivors of them  I do 
appoint my wife Elizabeth & my good friend Benja. Blunt & Jno. Thomas Blow 
exe'or to this my last will & testament  In Witness whereof I have put my hand 
& fixt my seal this 17 Day of Novr. 1770

At a Court held for the County Southampton the 13th day of Dec 1770 
This Will was presented in Court by Benja. Blunt & Jno. Thos. Blow (two of the 
executors therein) named liberty being reserved for the executrix to join in the 
probat is thereof & proved by the oaths of Henry Thomas  Benjamin Evans & 
Micajah Edwards the witnesses thereto & ordered to be recorded  And on the 
motion of the sd. ex'ors who made oath according to Law a certificate was 
granted them for obtaining a probate thereof in due form giving security 
whereupon &c.
