SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY, VA - WILLS AND ESTATES - William Edwards, 21 Mar 1794 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN, I, William Edwards of the county of Southampton being of sound and disposing mind and memory, thanks be to almighty God for the same, but calling to mind the uncertainty of this life and knowing that it is appointed once for all men to die, do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following: Imprimis: I give and bequeath unto my son James Edwards the land I bought of Speed containing one hundred and eighty acres be the same more or less, to him and his heirs forever. I give and bequeath unto my son William Edwards the land I bought of Mills Applewhite, begining at a pine in Jones's line thence running a line of marked threes down the swamp to the point of the beach island, thence up the sevearest run of the said swamp to corner tree in my old patent thence the old line to a gum, thence along a line of marked trees to Jonah Edwards line containing two hundred and seven acres be the same more or less to him and his heirs forever. I give and bequeath unto my son Elias Edwards all the remainder of the land I bought of the Applewhites lyin westwardly of that (which) I give my son William, except that I sole (sold) Simon Murfee containing two hundred & seven acres, be the same more or less, to him and his heirs forever. I give and bequeath unto my son Albridgton Edwards all the land that is now before mentioned containing two hundred and seven acres, be the same more or less, and one feather bed and furniture, one cow and calf, & one ewe & lamb, to him and his heirs forever. Item: I give and bequeath unto my daughter Sally Wester one negro boy named Tom, to her and her heirs forever. Item: I give and bequeath unto my daughter Elizabeth Williams one negro girl named Huldy and her increase during her and her husban? or natural life, if she has no child at their deaths to be equally divided the same, amongst all the rest of my children, but if a child, to her and her heirs forever. Item: I give and bequeath unto my daughter Lyddy Laurence one negro boy nam'd Miles, to her and her heirs forever. Item: I give and bequeath unto my daughter Mary Edwards one negro girl nam'd Beck, one feather bed and furniture, one cow and calf & one ewe & lamb to her and her heirs forever. Item: I leave the use of the following negroes (viz): Pompy, Abram, Sam, Grace, Lender, Denniss & Jacob, and the use of all my moveable estate to my beloved wife Priscilla Edwards during her natural life or widowhood and after her death, to (be) equally divided. The following negros viz: Grace the other increase, Lender the other increase, Denniss, & Jacob and all my moveable estate their the remainder amongst all my children. Item: I give and bequeath unto my son James Edwards one negro man named Sam, after the death or marriage of my said wife, to him & his heirs forever. Item: I give and bequeath unto my sons (viz): William, Edward & Elias Edwards, one negro man named Abraham, after the marriage or death of my said wife, to them and their heirs forever. Item: I give and bequeath unto my son Albridgton Edwards one negro man Pompey, after marrriage or death of my said wife, to him & his heirs forever. Lastly, I appoint my sons James Edwards, William Edwards & Elias Edwards Executors to this my Last Will and Testament revoking & disannuling all former Will and Wills by me hitherto made and allowing this and no other to to be my Last Will and Testament.
