SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY, VA - WILLS AND ESTATES - Gerard R. Ellison, 1 Jul 1795 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- I, Gerard R. Ellison, of Southampton County, do make and ordain this to be my last will and testament in manner and form following. First, I lend to my wife Sarah Ellison the use of my plantation with one hundred and fifty acres of land adjoyning it and also all of my personal estate of every kind during her single life. Secondly, I give to my son Caleb Ellison one hundred acres of land more or less divided from the above mentioned land by a line of marked trees from Jesse Washingtons corner tree to Etheldred Washingtons line to him and his heirs forever. Thirdly, I give to my son Edwin Ellison at the marriage or death of my wife, the plantation and land whereon I now live by estimation, one hundred and fifty acres, be the same more or less, to him and his heirs forever, provided he shall pay to his brother James the sum of twenty pounds cash as soon as James arrives to the age of twenty one years, if he is then in possession of the land, if not, as soon as he is. Fourthly, I give to my son James Ellison one feather bed and furniture and the twenty pounds above directed to be paid to him by his brother Edwin, to him and his heirs. Fifthly, I (If) either Caleb or Edwin should die without lawful issue, the land heretofore devised to him, I give to my son James Ellison, to him and his heirs forever, but in this case, he shall have no right to the bed or money devised to him above. Sixthly, all the remainder and residue of my estate of every kind that may be found at the marriage or death of my wife, I leave to Dorcas Ellison, Gulie Elison & Zacariah Elison which I give to them or their survivors of them and their heirs. Lastly, I nominate and appoint Gideon Ellison & Samuel Cornwell to Execute this my Last Will & Testament. And on the motion of the said Executor who made oath according to law (he being one of the people called Quakers) a Certificate is granted him for obtaining a Probat thereof in due form giving security.
