SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY, VA - WILLS AND ESTATES - John Fort, 13 Jun 1795 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Will: John Fort, St.Luke, Southampton Co, VA (1795) IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN, I John Fort of Southampton County & Parish of St.Lukes, being of sound mind & memory do make this my last (will) & testament in manner & form following, to wit: Item: I give and bequeath to my mother Milly & her children & their increase during her life & my will & desire is that she may (have?) enough of my estate yearly to support the children till they are able to earn it & at her death, for them to be equally divided between my sister Rebecca Barnes children to them & their heirs forever. Item: I give and bequeath to my sister Temperance Fort when she becomes of age or marries, two negros namely: Jack & James to her & heirs forever, but my will & desire is that if she dies without heir for them to go to my brother Edwin Fort to him & to his heirs forever. Item: My will and desire is that all the remainder of my estate of what kind or nature soever or wheresoever found be sold to pay my just debts & the remainder, if any, to my brother Edwin Fort, to him & to his heirs forever. And lastly, I constitute & appoint my friends William Chambless & Joseph Thorp my whole & sole Executors to this my Last Will & Testament hereby revoking all others by me heretofore made. And on the motion of William Barnes, the Executor in this Will mentioned named refusing to qualify take upon themselves the burthen of the execution thereof who made oath according to law, Certificate is granted him for obtaining a Letter of Administration with the Will annex'd giveing security whereupon &c.
