Howell I, Anthony M. Howell of the County of Southampton, State of Virginia do make The following as and for my last will and Testament hereby revoking all former Wills or testaments by me made. Having by deed which is recorded in the Clerks Office of Southampton County made provisions for my wife and daughters and wishing to provide for my son Henry I do Therefore hereby give desire and bequeath to him my said son Henry after the payment of all my just debts the whole of my estate both real and personal to him and his heirs forever. In case my said son Henry should not at the Time of my death arrived to the age of twenty one years, the said property is to be taken possession of by Littleton R. Edwards who I appoint guardian to my said son and be managed by him in such manner as he may deem most advantageous to the interest of my said son. And I wish the said Edwards to have the whole and sole control of my said son and his property having full confidence in him that he will my said son ample justice. I also appoint the said Edwards Executor of this my last will and Testament. Given under my hand and seal this 13th day of September 1850. Signed & acknowledged before us who subscribed our names as witnesses in the presence of the Testator. Anthony M. Howell ***SEAL*** Jno J. Kindred Wm. B. Shands At a Court held for the County of Southampton, October 18, 1858. This last will and testament of Anthony M. Howell deceased was proved by the oaths of Jno. J. Kindred And Wm. B. Shands the subscribing witnesses thereto and ordered To be recorded. And Littleton R. Edwards the Executor therein named appeared in Court and refused to take upon himself the burthen of the execution thereof. On the motion of William B. Shands who made oath & together with James D. Bryant & Wm. W. Briggs his securities, who justified on oath as to their Sufficiency entered into and acknowledged a bond in the penalty of Six thousand Dollars conditioned according to Law. Certificate is granted him for obtaining letter of administration on the estate of the said Anthony M. Howell with his will aforesaid annexed in one form. Teste, L. R. Edwards [Note: Anthony M. Howell’s will is recorded in Will Book 16 page 347 at the Southampton County Courthouse - Courtland, Virginia] To the County Court of Southampton County. Your Commissioner reports to Court that Wm. B. Shands the Administrator of A. M. Howell has exhibited before him a Statement of all monies received by the said Administrator or with which he had became chargeable or had disbursed during the periods embraced in the fore going account together with the vouchers in support of the disbursements. That he finds he finds a balance a balance of $362.96 to be due by the said Administrator to the said estate on the 15th day of December 1859 with interest thereon from that Day. That the said account is supported by satisfactory vouchers, and the said Administrator has given such bond as the law requires, the penalty where of and the securities thereto are sufficient in the opinion of the Commissioner. That that said Administrator was embraced in the list of Fiduciaries posted up at the front door of the Courthouse of Southampton County, on the first day of December Court 1858, and now on This day, (Ten days having elapsed since the same was this posted,) The foregoing account is made up and completed.
