All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ John HINES (1760-1803), will dated 24 Oct 1797, presented 17 Oct 1803, admin. granted 19 Dec 1803 I, John Hines of So.ampton County being of sound disposing mind and memory do make and ordain this to be my last will and testament in manner & form foll'ing First I give and bequeath unto my son Edward Hines two negroes namely Jim and Amey with their increase from this date to him and his heirs forever__ 2ndly I give and bequeath unto my daughter Lydia Scarbrough two negroes, Patt and Matthew to her and her heirs forever_ _ 3rdly I give and bequeath unto my Grandson Jesse_Hill Son of Isaac Hill, the land and plantation I purchased of my son Edwin Hines to him and his Heirs, But in Case he Should not Survive his mother nor leave no lawfull Issue it is my will and desire that the sd. land Should be sold by my Executors -hereafter mentioned and the money arising from the Sales thereof be equally divided amongst all my sd. daughter Milley's children or their legal Representatives_ 4thly. I lend unto my daughter Milley the aforesaid Land and plantation during her natural live, And after her death to go and pass in the manner aforesd. I also Give and be.queath unto my sd. daughter Milley one negro Girl Celia with her increase from this date to her and her heirs forever_ 5thly. I give and bequeath unto my daughter Tempey two negroes Ned and Dicie with their increase from this date to her and her heirs forever_ 6thly. I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Peggy two negroes Kitt and Rhoda with their increase from this date to her and her heirs forever _¤_ 7tly. I give and bequeath unto my daughter Nancy three negroes, Jacob, Fereby and Angedi with their increase from this date to her & her heirs forever_ also the land and plantation I own on the Mussock Swamp to her and her heirs forever 8thly. I lend unto my wife Ann the use and Labour of four negroes Sam, Beck, Sall and Isham, also the Remainder of my estate not before Given away as also the use, of the land and plantation I purchased of Thomas Clements Butts, during her life and after her death I direct that the sd. negroes so lent as aforesd. and their increase together with all the estate lent as aforesd. (except the land) be sold and the money Arising from the sales thereof to be equally divided amongst all my children or their representatives_ 9thly. I give and bequeath unto my two daughters Tempy and Peggy the land & plantation I purchased of Thomas C Butts (Subject to their mothers use during her life) to be equally divided between them to them and their heirs forever_ 10thly. It is my will and desire that if either of my daughters, Nancy Tempy or Peggy should die without lawfull Issue that in that Case the land given to them should go and pass and descend to the Survivor or Survivors of them_ Lastly I do constitute and Appoint my wife Ann and my son Edwin my Executors to this my last will and testament and it is my last will and desire that my estate be not appraised___In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this Twenty fourth day of Octobr. in the year 1797 John Hines (Seal) Signed And Ackd.} in presence of_ } Benjn.
