William Hurst, 1787 will, Southampton County ------------------------- In the Name of God Amen the twentieth Day of June 1797 I William Hurst of the County of Southampton being weak in body but Sound in memory do make this my last will and Testament in the manner and form following Vz Item. I lend unto my beloved [wife] Nancy Hurst my Land and Plantation whereon I now live Containing one hundred acres more or Less during her Single life or Widowhood. Item. I lend unto my beloved wife Nancy Hurst one Cow and Calf one Sow and Pigs and one Ewe and my hores Coalt [sic] during her natural Life or Widowhood. Item. I Give unto my Son William Hurst my Land and Plantation whereon I now live Containing one hundred Acres more or less after the Death or marriage of my Wife Nancy Hurst [to] him and his heirs forever. Item. I Give unto my beloved Son William Hurst after the Death or marriage of my wife Nancy Hurst my Cow and Calf one Sow and Pigs one Ewe and one horse Colt To him and his heirs forever. And my will and Desire is that the remainder of my Estate that I have not will'd away Should be sold and after my Justs [sic] debt being paid the remainder Should be Equally [divided] between my Eight Children Angy, Abraham, Charles, Cate, Easter, Oliver, Delitha, and Waite [?] Hurste, And my will and Desire is that my Estate Should not be Appraised And I also do appoint and nominate Charles Birdsong my Exors. of this my Last Will and Testament Utterly Revoking and Disallowing all other Wills Testaments Legacies and Bequest whatsoever by me mentioned as Witness my hand & Seal the day and year above Written. Signed Sealed published and pronounced as this my William (his X mark ) Hurst last will and Testament in the presence of Charles Birdsong Giles (his x mark) Joyner Mathew (his x mark) Bryant At a court held for the County of Southampton the 19 day of July 1797 This Will was presented in Court by Charles Birdsong the Exr therein named and proved by the Oaths of Giles Joyner and Mathew Bryant two of the Witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded.
