All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ Goodman HORNE, will, Apr 1872 (pr'd 18 Nov 1872) estate appraisement, 26 Apr 1873 (18 Jan 1875) In the name of God Amen, I Goodman Horn of the County of Southampton and State of Virginia being of sound mind and memeory and considering the uncertainty of this life I therefore make and ordain this my last will and Testament, In the following manner to wit, Art 1st} after paying all my just Debts I dispose of the ballance of my Estate as follows. Art 2 } I lone all the ballance of my Estate to my wife Martha Horn as long as she lives or remains my widow Except one horse and work Ox or at her death or marriage I desire all my propert both real and personal wo be sold and the proceeds Equally Divided between my Children that may at that time be living Art 3 } I Give to my son Robert Horn one horse call_ the Poney but is to stay on the farm as long as I live Art 4 } I Give to my son Harrison Horn my work oxe_ and he also is to stay on the farm untill my Death or untill he becomes of age ___ I likewise make Constitue and appoint my wife Martha Horn without security to be my Exector to this my last will and Testament hereby - revoking all other will by me In witness whereof I have set my hand and seal this _ day of April 1872. Britt Goodman X Horn ¤Seal¤ his mark Jesse E. x Britt mark At a Court held for the County of Southampton on the 18th day of November 1872 This last will and Testament of Goodman Horn decd. was proved by the oath of Thomas E. Britt & Jesse E. Britt the subscribing witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded; and on the motion of Martha Horn executrix therein named who made oath according to law and entered into and ack =nowledged a bond in the penalty of One thousand dollars Conditioned as the law directs _ but with out Security, the will directing that no security should be required and the Court requiring none- which bond is ordered to be recorded _ Certificate is granted the said Martha Horn for obtaining a probat of the said will in due form _ Teste L.R. Holmes John Bowers Thomas E. Britt Southampton County, } State of Virginia } To wit This day Personally appeared before me M.D. Butler, a Justice of the Peace for the County aforesaid, Saml.H. Holmes, John Bowers and Thomas Britt and Made Oath that the annexed Inventory or Appraisement is, Valued and appraised to the best of our Knowledge and belief. Given Under my hand this 26th. of March 1873 M.D. Butler J.P. March 12th. 1874, Inspected, & approved, Jno:J. Kindred Comr. of Accts Southampton County Court, November Term 1872 Ordered that John Bowers, Saml. H. Holmes, Thos. Britt & John C. Griffin, or any three of them, being first duly Sworn for the Purpose, do appraise all the goods and Chattels of Goodman Horn decd. that may be produced to them, and return the Appraisement Under their hands according to law.
