SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY, VA - WILLS AND ESTATES - Edmund Harris, 20 May 1795 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN, I Edmund Harris the the county of Southampton being weak of body but of sound and disposing mind & memory and wishing to prevent disputes in my family about my estate after my death, do make this my last will & testament in manner and form following (to wit): I lend to my loving wife Elizabeth Harris during her natural life the use of all my negroes To? Bill, Brandon, Dick, Ceblen, Ben, Cannon, Sarah, Aucka, Surry and Peg, together with my still, stock of all kinds, plantation utensils and all my household & kitchen furniture and all the corn and bacon the plantation at the time of my decease. Item: I give and bequeath to the two daughters of Sandon Harriss (to wit): Penny Carr Harris and Jinny Harris after the death of my wife, one sixth part of my said estate lent to my wife to be equally divided between the said Penny Carr Harriss & Nancy Harriss to them & their heirs forever, but if either of them die before she arrives to the age of twenty one years or marries, then the survivor of them to heir the whole of the said sisters part of my estate above mentioned My will and desire is that my Executors hereafter named take the charge and care of the same for the benefit and use of the said Penny Carr Hariss and Jinny Harris until they arive to the age of eighteen years or marrys. Item: My will and desire is that after the death of my wife that all the remainder of my estate of what nature or kind soever be equally divided between my five children hereafter named, to wit: Sterling Harriss, John Harris, Peyton Harris, James Harris and Charlot Turner, to them and their heirs forever. Item: And lastly, I constitute and appoint my two sons to wit: Peyton Harriss and James Harriss my whole Executors of this my Last Will and Testament revoking all other Will or Wills by me heretofore made. And at a court held for the said county on the 16th day of May, on the motion of Peyton Harris, one of the Executors in the Will named, who made oath according to law, Certificate is granted him for obtaining a Probat thereof in due form giving security whereupon &c And at a court held for the county on the 21st of August 1797 James appeared, the other Executor in the Will named, gave land & whereupon &c.
