SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY, VA - WILLS & ESTATES - Joel Harris estate settlement ----¤¤¤---- In obedience to the current order we the undersigned commissioners procceded to divide the lands and slaves belonging to the estate of Joel Harris dec'ed as follows, Prince Tract of land 507 acres valued at $4.00 an acre $2,028 Mansion Tract of land 654 acres valued at $400 an acre + $2,616 ------ 3/$4,644 Value allotted to the widow $1,548 We allotted to the widow by estimation 200 acres including the improvements on the home tract, commmencing at a large red oak tree at the forks of the road, near Peete's Meeting house and running nearly a south course to a branch; thence along the same by a line of chopped trees to the creek; up the creek to Thomas Applewhite line running with the said Applewhite line to the road; thence along the road to the beginning. We also allot by estimation 21 acres, begining at the said oak at the forks of the road, running nearly a north course to a swamp running with the same to a black gum a corner, from thence runnung nearly a south course with a line of chopped trees to a pine near a fence corner; running near a fence with a line of chopped trees to the road; thence down the road to the begining.
