SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY, VA - WILLS AND ESTATES - Howel Hines, 4 Nov 1789 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Wills: Howel Hines, Southampton Co, VA (1789) IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN, I Howel Hines of Southampton County being weak and in a low state of health but being in sound mind and memory do make this my last will and testament in the manner following. First of all I recommend my soul into the hands of almighty God who gave it hoping that at the general resurrection to receive pardon for all my sins and my body I commit to the ground from whence it was taken to be interd at the discresion of my Executors hereafter mentioned. Item: I give unto my beloved wife Ann Hines the use of all my lands during her natural life and after her death to be sold and the money arising therefrom to be equally divided among any children (to wit): Dolly C, Sarah and Elizabeth C Hines to them and their heirs forever. Item: I also give unto my beloved wife Ann Hines for the support of herself and children Dolly C, Sarah and Elizabeth C Hines during her widowhood the following negroes &c Moses, Tom, Ned, Anthony, Aggy, Cate, Fanny and Milley; all the household and kitchen furniture and plantation uttensils, my bay horse named Ball, ten choice of the stock of my cattle, all my stock of hogs permitting them which are to fattend and all my stock of sheep, one thousand two hundred pounds of fat pork, one stould? beef, fifty barrels of corn and all my crop of pease, cotton and potatoes, all my old bacon and fresh provided she should marry, I then give her during her life the following negroes: Aggy, Fanny and Milly and at her marriage I desire that Moses, Tom, Ned, Anthony and Cate to be hired out and the money arising therefrom to be apropreated to the use of the above mentioned children and after her death, my will and desire is that all the above mentioned negroes Moses, Tom, Ned, Anthony, Aggy, Cate and Milley and their increase to be equally divided among my children in above mentioned; also at her marriage my will and desire is that all my property above mentioned exclusive the land and negroes to be sold and for her to draw one third of the same during her life and the remainder arising from the said sale to be equally divided among my children before mentioned. Item: My will and desire is that all the residue of my estate that is not before devised to be sold at my death and the money arising therefrom to be equally divided among my children before mentioned to them and their heirs forever. I hereby nominate and appoint Capt. Josiah Vick and Mr. James Chappell my Executors to this my Last Will and Testament.
