SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY, VA - WILLS AND ESTATES - John Ivy, Sr. 16 Jan 1787 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Wills: John Ivy, Sr, Southampton Co, VA (1789) IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN, I John Ivy, Sr of Southampton County being in health of body and perfect in memory do make this my last will and testament. Imprimis: I leave the one? half of my land both cleared and uncleared to be lived? by them honest neighbours to my wife Mary during of her natural life and at her death to my son Benjamin Ivy to him and his heirs forever, also lend to my wife during life my negroes Edy and Nan, two feather beds and furniture, two cows and calves and one horse that she may chose, one half the plantation, utensils and household and kitchen furniture except the boats? & sows and piggs and ten? year old hogs. Item: I give and bequeath to my son Philip Ivy the other half of my land to him his heirs forever. My will and desire is that at my wife's death all the remainder of my estate of what nature or kind so ever be equally divided by those honest neighbors between my three children: Benjamin Ivy, Phillip Ivy and Becky Bass without sail? the other part not as yet divided I devise at my death to be equally divided between my three children above mentioned. Lastly, I constitue and appoint my two sons Benjamin Ivy and Phillip Ivy my whole and sole Executors of this my Last Will and Testament, revoking all others made by me heretofor made. At a Court held for the County of Southampton the 10th day of December 1789 This Will was presented in Court by Phillip Ivy, the Executor therein named, proved by the oaths of John Williamson and Richard Gilliam, two of the witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded and on the motion of the said Executor, who made oath according to law, certificate is granted to him for obtaining a Probat thereof in due form giving security whereupon &c.
