All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ Absalom JOYNER (1759-1814), will dated 1813, proved May 1814 In the name of God Amen I Absalom Joyner of the county of Southampton considering the uncertainty of this mortal life, and being of sound and perfect mind and memory blessed be almighty God for the same, do make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following (that is to say) First: I give and bequeath unto my son Joseph Joyner one cow and calf and one feather bed and furniture. Secondly: I give and devise unto my son Matthew Joyner his heirs and assigns all that my messuage or tenement whereon he now lives, formerly the property of John Whitley. I also give and devise to my said son Matthew Joyner all that messuage or tenement (formerly known by Joshua Council's plantation), and which said plantation I purchased of Jordan Denson. I also give and bequeath to my said son Matthew Joyner one negro boy named Jerry, one negro girl named Sarah and also all the property which he has now in possession not heretofore mentioned, to him and his heirs forever. Thirdly: I give and devise to my daughter Nancy Joyner all that my messuage and tenement whereon I now live to her heirs and assigns forever. I also give my said daughter Nancy Joyner the following negroes (vizt) Dianah, Anthony, Luke, Tab, Maria, and Charles, also two feather beds and furniture, and one bay filly, and one side saddle to her and her heirs forever. Fourthly: I give and bequeath to my daughter Sally Wills one negro man named Jacob, one negro woman named Caty, negro girl Airy, and negro boy Pompy, also the property heretofore given her, not here before mentioned to her and her heirs forever. Fifthly: I give and bequeath to my grand son Josiah Joyner one negro boy named James, to him and his heirs forever. And lastly as to all the rest residue and remainder of my personal estate goods and chattle of what nature or kind soever I wish to be sold or so much thereof as will pay and satisfy all my just debts and the remainder and remainders, to be equally divided between my three children, Joseph, Matthew and Nancy Joyner, and I hereby appoint my friend Jeremiah Cobb and my son in law James Wills, my executors to this my last will an testament hereby revoking all former wills by me made in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this ___(blank) day of _____(blank) 1813.
