All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ Bridgman JOYNER Jr. (1715-1776), will dated 26 Jul 1776, proved 14 Nov 1776 In the name of God amen I Bridgman Joyner of the county of Southampton Virginia being sick and weak of body but sound and perfect mind and memory calling to mind the mortality of this body and knowing that it is appointed for all men to die do think proper to make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following to wit: 1st: I give devise and bequeath unto my loving wife Mary Joyner the use and profits of the plantation and land I bought of Jesse Council, also my negro man slave called Tim and one safe for and during the term of her natural life or widowhood. Likewise one feather bed and furniture, one table, three pewter dishes, three d' plates, one brass candlestick, one cow, one half my hogs to her and to her heirs and assigns for ever. Also one black trunk with everything she purchased herself now in my possession. 2nd: I give devise and bequeath unto my nephew Lewis Joyner the plantation and lands whereon I now live to him and to his heirs forever. 3rd: I give devise and bequeath unto Jacob Joyner son of Jacob Joyner after the death or marriage of my wife the plantation and lands that I bought of Jesse Council. Also I give him my negro woman called Jude and her child called Pompey to him and to his heirs and assigns forever. 4th: I give devise and bequeath unto my brother Jacob Joyner all the remainder of my pewter, one chest, all my wearing apparel, six head of cattle, 3 large juggs(sic), one half my hoggs(sic), all the cash which I shall have on hand at my decease, one feather bed and furniture, one still poll cap and worm to him and to his heirs forever. 5th: I give and bequeath all the remainder of my estate of every kind to be equally divided between my wife Mary Joyner and my brothers Jacob and Jesse Joyners and I do authorize and appoint my friends Jacob Beale, James Fowler and Absalom Tallaugh or any two of them to divide the same between them to them and to their heirs and assigns forever. 6th: and Lastly I do hereby nominate depute authorize and appoint my brother Jacob Joyner whole and sole executor to this my last will and testament hereby revoking and disannulling all the wills by me heretofore made ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament. In witness whereof I the said Bridgman Joyner have hereunto set my hand and seal this twenty sixth day of July Anno Dom 1776. Bridgman (his mark) Joyner Witnesses: J Denson Jacob (his mark) Beale Absalom (his mark) Tallaugh At a court held for the county of Southampton the 14th day of November 1776 this will was presented in court by Jacob Joyner the executor therein named and proved by the oaths of Jacob Beale and Absalom Tallough two of the witnesses thereto and on the 10th day of October 1776 was proved by Jordan Denson a witness thereto and ordered to be recorded and on the motion of the said executor who made oath according to law certificate is granted him for obtaining a probat thereof in due form giving security whereupon etca.
