All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ Joseph JOYNER, Sr. (abt 1760-1818), will dated 25 Sep 1817, recorded 19 Jan 1818 In the name of God Amen I Joseph Joyner of the county of Southampton being weak in body but of sound mind & memory thanks be to almighty God for the same, do make constitute and ordain this writing to be my last will and testament in manner & form following (To wit,) First I lend unto my daughters Elizabeth, Patsey, Mason, Lucy & Jensey two acres of land on the back part of my young orchard rent to James Barretts during their lives_ 2nd. I give and bequeath unto my Son Joseph the whole of my lands that I am now possessed off(sic). Also one negro Man by the name of George, one still, one sorrell mare & bay colt, nine head of cattle called his two sows & their shoats to him & to his heirs forever. 3rd. After the payments of my just debts the ballance(sic) of my Estate I give unto my daughters Elizabeth, Patsey, Mason, Lucy & Jensey to be equally divided between them, to them & their heirs forever. Lastly I do hereby appoint my son Joseph and my friend John Thomas, my executors to this my last will & testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 25th day of September one thousand Eight hundred & seventeen. Joseph Joyner Senr. Barrett At a court held for the County of So:ampton the 19th day of January 1818 This will was presented in court by Joseph Joyner the Exor. therein named, proved by the oaths of Jesse Barrett & Barton Chitty two of the witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded. On the motion of the said exor. who made oath according to law Certificate is granted him for obtaining a probat thereof in due form, on his giving bond and Security, whereupon the said Joseph Joyner with Anthony Woodard & Richd. B. Day his securities entered into and acknowledged their bond in the penalty of twenty thousand dollars conditioned as the law directs.
