All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ Jonathan JOYNER (1700-1752), will dated 10 Jan 1750, proved 12 Apr 1753 In the name of God Amen I Jonathan Joyner being sick and weak but of perfect sence(sic) and memory do make ordain this my last will and testament first and principally bequeath my soul into the hands of almighty God hoping through the merrit(sic) death and passion of my saviour(sic) Jesus Christ to have full and free pardon of all my sins and my body I commit to the earth to be decently buryed(sic) by my executor hereafter named. Item: I give and bequeath unto my loving wife Drusilala(sic) Joyner three negros by name Dick Sam and Poll during her life and after her decease then the two negros by name Dick and Sam to be Equally divided between my children. I give unto my loving wife two horses and mare. Item: I give and bequeath unto my daughter Patience Joyner one negro named Sarah to her and her heirs forever. Item: I give unto my son Thomas Joyner two negros by name Moses & Patt to him and his heirs forever. I give unto my sd: sun Thomas the plantation whereon I now live and all my lands containing five hundred acres be the same more or less to him and his heirs forever. I give unto my son Alexander Joyner one negro boy named Jack to him and his heirs forever. I give unto my sd: son Alexander one negro wench named Poll after his Mother decease to him and his heirs forever. I give unto my daughter Mary Joyner one negro girl named Tabb to her and her heirs forever. Item: I give unto my son David Joyner one negro girl named Janey to him and his heirs forever. Item: I give unto my loveing wife all the residue of my estate goods and chattels to her and her heirs forever. Lastly I do appoint my loving wife Druscilla Joyner and my brother in law John Boykin my holy and sole executors to this my last will and testament revoking disannuling and making void all other wills heretofore maid by me. Witness whereof I have put my hand [and] seal this 10th day of January 1750. Jonathan Joyner Witnesses Samson Pitman Catherine Dunkley At a court held for the County of Southampton on Thursday the 13 day of August 1752 this will was proved by the oath of Catherine Dunkley a witness thereto And at a court held for the said county on Thursday the 9th day of November 1752 the same was proved by the oath of Samson Pitman another of the witnesses thereto. And at a court held for the said county 12th day of April 1753 the same was presented in court by Drusilla Joyner and John Boykin the executors therein named and ordered to be recorded and on the motion of the said executors who made oath according to law certificate was granted them for obtaining a probat thereof in due form giving security.
