All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ Joseph JOYNER (1687-1762), will dated 25 Oct 1760, proved 8 Apr 1762 In the name of God amen the twenty fifth day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and sixty I, Joseph Joyner, in the county of Southampton being weak of body but in perfect sence(sic) and memory thanks be to God do make this my last will and testament in manner and form following, that is to say: First I bequeath my soul and spirit into the hands of Almighty God my Heavenly Father by whom of his mercy and only grace I trust to be saved and received into eternal rest through the death of my Saviour and Redeamer(sic) Jesus Christ in whose precious blod (sic) I set the hope of my salvation and my body in hope of a joyful resurrection. I commit my body to the earth to be buried in a Christian like manner as my friends shall think fit and to relating the stributation(sic) of my worldly goods I dispose of them as followeth: Item I give and bequeath to my son Joseph Joyner the plantation whereon I now live also the land adjoining that I took up containing one hundred and forty acres also one negro man named Sam, one bed and furniture which he hath now in possession, one half of the carpenters and coopers tools, one still, two guns also one negro woman named Bess to him and his heirs forever. Item I give and bequeath unto my son John Joyner the plantation I bought of Mary Clother, also one negro man named Phil, one bed and furniture which is now called his. Also twelve pounds twelve shillings and four pence half penny current money, one half of the carpenter and coopers tools, also all the cattle that is called his that are on the plantation with mine and of my mark and one hunting gun to him and his heirs forever. Item I give and bequeath unto my daughter Margrat(sic) Whitney one negro woman named Patience, also one bed which she hath now in possession to her and her heirs forever. Item I give and bequeath unto my daughter Mary Mackey one negro boy named Mingo during her natural life and after her decease to my grandson Joseph Mackey, also one bed which she hath now in possession, one pewter dish and two plates to her and her heirs forever. Item I give and bequeath unto my daughter Elizabeth Joyner one negro woman named Joyce, one bed and furniture, one pewter dish and two pewter plates and four head of cattle to her and her heirs forever. Item I give and bequeath unto my daughter Ann Joyner one negro woman named Sarah, one bed and furniture, one pewter dish and two plates, one large leather trunk and four head of cattle to her and her heirs forever. Item I give and Bequeath unto my daughter Amey Joyner one negro girl named Rosilla, the bed and furniture which I lie on, one large chest, one pewter dish and two plates, and four head of cattle to her and her heirs forever. Item I further give to each of my daughters namely Elizabeth, Ann, and Amey one iron pot apiece. Item I also give unto my daughter Margaret and Mary all the rest of my cattle not before given unto my other three daughters Elizabeth, Ann and Amey, to be equally divided between them and it is my will and desire that all the rest of my estate whatsoever and wheresoever be sold and the money arising to be equally divided amoungst(sic) my children namely Joseph, John, Margaret, Mary, Elizabeth, Ann, and Amey. And lastly I do appoint my two sons Joseph and John my executors of this my last will and testament as witness my hand this twenty fifth day of October Anno Domini one thousand seven hundred and sixty. Joseph (his mark) Joyner Witness William Haynes Giles Joyner Charles (his mark) Lawrance At a court held for the county of Southampton the 8 day of April 1762 this last will of Joseph Joyner deceased /hereto annexed/ was presented in court by John Joyner one of the executors therein proved by the oaths of Charles Lawrance and Giles Joyner two of the witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded and on the motion of the said executor who made oath certificate was granted him for obtaining a probat giving security.
