All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ Joshua JOYNER (1769-1827), will dated 17 May 1827, proved 18 Jun 1827 In the name of God amen I Joshua Joyner residing on Black Water River in the county of Southampton being of sound mind and memory do hereby make and declare this my last will and testament in manner and form as follows. I give unto my daughter Charity Joyner one feather bed and furniture, one chest, one dark brindled cow and calf, three sheep and two hogs to her and her heirs forever and I leave her the plantation whereon I now live containing seventy nine acres and divided from my son Jonathan's tract by a line made by myself of marked trees beginning at a maple in Jack's tract thence running a line of marked trees to a cypress on Black Water River to have the use of and profits thereof during her natural life and then to descend to my son Jonathan Joyner and his heirs forever. I give unto my son Jonathan Joyner the upper part of my plantation on which he now lives five acres and divided from the one on which I live by a line as above mentioned to him and his heirs forever. I also give him one gun and the plantation loaned to my daughter Charity after her decease to him and his heirs forever. I leave all the balance of my estate to be divided into three equal shares and I give one share to my daughter Charity Joyner, one share to the children then living of my daughter Fereby Owens and one share to the children then living of my daughter Tempy Corbitt them and their heirs forever. Lastly I nominate and appoint my friend Carr Bowers, my executor of this my last will and testament in witness thereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 17th day of April 1827. Joshua Joyner Witness: Willis (his mark) Whitfield Elisha Joyner Johnson Corbit At a Court held for the County of Southampton the 18th day of June 1827 this last Will and Testament of Joshua Joyner deceased was proved by the oaths of Elisha Joyner and Johnson Corbit two of the witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded and on the motion of Carr Bowers the Executor therein named who made oath thereto and together with Jacob Darden his security entered into and acknowledged a bond in the penalty of six hundred dollars conditioned according to law, certificate is granted the said executor for obtaining a probat of the said will in due form.
