All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ William JOYNER, Sr. (1724-1777), will dated 31 Dec 1776, proved 11 Jul 1777 In the name of God amen I William Joyner of the county of Southampton being of sound and disposing mind do make and ordain this writing for my last will and testament. First give unto my loving wife Ann Joyner the use profit and labour of the lands and plantation whereon I now live with a negro woman Patience for and during the term of her natural life. Also I give her the following articles as her absolute property to her choice of a bed and furniture, a side saddle, a large Bible, a linnen wheel and woollen wheel, a chest, a trunk, and two cows and calves. Also I give and devise to my son William Joyner the lands and plantation whereon he lives containing one hundred and seventy five acres to him and his heirs and assigns forever. I lend to my said son William the use, profit, and labour of my negro girl Rose and the use and labour of one third part of share of the said William in my slaves aforesaid and also the negro Rose to be equally divided between all the children that he may leave at his death and their heirs forever. Also I give and devise to my son Laurence Joyner the land and plantation whereon he now lives containing about two hundred acres to him and his heirs forever. I lend to my son Laurence Joyner the use, profit and labor of one other third part of all my remaining slaves living at my death for the term of his natural life and after his death I give the part or share of the said Laurence of my slaves aforesaid and also the negro Dinah to be equally divided between all the children of the said Laurence that he may leave at his death and to their heirs forever. I also give him one bed and furniture. I also give and devise to my son Jethro Joyner after the death of my wife Ann the lands and plantation whereon I now live for and during the time of his natural life only and after his death I give the said lands and plantation to the first son of the said Jethro that shall live to attain the age of twenty one years and to his heirs forever. I also lend to my said son Jethro Joyner the use profit and labour of a negro girl named Moll and the use profit and labour of one other third part of all my remaining slaves living at the time of my death for the term of his natural life and after his death I give the part or share of the said Jethro of my remaining slaves as aforesaid and also the negro Moll to be equally divided between all the children that he the said Jethro may leave at the time of his death and their heirs forever and for want of such children or issue to be equally divided between the children of issue of my son William and Laurence and their heirs. Also I give to Ann Joyner daughter of my brother Lewis Joyner one cow and calf and six pounds cash to be paid by my executors when she attains the age of eighteen or marries. And all the rest residue and remainder of my estate of what nature of kind soever I give devise and bequeath to the equally divided between my three sons William, Laurence, and Jethro and their heirs forever. I hereby constitute and appoint my said three sons executors of this my last will and testament revoking all others by me heretofore made. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this thirty first day of December 1776. And on the motion of the said Executors who made oath according to law certificate is granted them for obtaining a probat thereof in due form giving security etca.
