SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY, VA - WILLS AND ESTATES - Jesse Jenkins, 22 Nov 1799 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Will: Jesse Jenkins, Nottoway Parish, Southampton Co, VA (1800) IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN, I Jesse Jenkins of the Parish of Nottoway and county of Southampton being mindful of the frailty? and mortality of human nature and that it is appointed for all men once to die, but considering the uncertainty of the time thereof being of sound mind and understanding, do therefore make this my last will & testament in manner & form following, that is to say: First, My will and desire is that my just debts should be paid. I therefore leave one negro woman named Judith to be sold for the most that can be got in order to pay my just debts and of my Executor should find that would not be sufficient, then my desire is that they should sell as much of my property as could be best spared and the money arising therefrom to be appropriated to that use. Item: I lend to my loving wife Ann Jenkins during her life or widowhood, my part of the tract of land left me by my father lying on Black Water Swamp containing 100 acres, more or less, and after the death or marriage of my wife Ann Jenkins, the said above mentioned land to go to my son Spencer R. Jenkins, to him and his heirs forever. Item: I give to my brother William Jenkins my full sett of blacksmiths tools, as full compensation for all demands that he may have against me. I leave the remainder of my estate to my loving wife Ann Jenkins and my son Spencer R. Jenkins to be equally divided at my sons arival at age of 21 years. Item: I give to my son Spencer Rorie? (faded) Jenkins 100 acres of land left by my father lying on Blackwater after the death or marriage of my Ann Jenkins, to him and his heirs forever. But if my son Spencer R. Jenkins should die without lawful issue of his body or arive to the age of twenty one years, then the above mentioned land go to my brother William Jenkins. I leave my wife Ann Jenkins and my brother William Jenkins my Executors of this my Last Will and Testament.
