SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY, VA - WILLS AND ESTATES - Giles Joiner, 24 Nov 1801 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Will: Giles Joiner, Southampton Co, VA (1801) IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN, I Giles Joiner being of sound mind and disposing memory do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form as followeth: Imprimis: I give unto my daughter Lucy Joiner my negroe woman Sall and Lydia together with their increase from the date hereof and also a negroe Bob and Eli to her and her heirs forever. Item: I give and bequeath unto my sons Theophilus and Redduk Joiner, and to their heirs forever all my land (my wife Elizabeth is hereunto enjoying the loan hereafter made for her, this clause notwithstanding) both in this county and in the county of Northampton and state of North Carolina and also negroes Luke and Frank to be equally divided between them at the time my son Theophilus arives to the age of twenty one years. Item: I give unto my daughter Femly? (name marked over) Joiner, negroe William, Miles and Miles and also the sum of seventy dollars to her and to her heirs forever. (names were repeated) I desire that all my estate not before mentioned may be sold by my Executors hereafter named and the money arising from such sale, I give to be equally divided amongst all my children, and their heirs or such of them as there be. Item: I desire that if either of my sons should die before they arive to the age of twenty one years, that the estate now willed to him, may go to his surviving brother, and if both my sons should die in their non age, that then the estate should go to my daughter or their heir of such of them as there be. If either of my daughters should die without issue and under twenty one years of age, I desire tht the estate now willed to her may be divided amongst all my children or their heirs or such of them as there be. Item: I lend unto my beloved wife Elizabeth Joiner the use of the dwelling house where I now live, and two acres of land around the same (during her natural life or widowhood). I further give unto my wife Elizabeth the sum of fifty dollars a year during her natural life or widowhood to be paid to her out of the profits or my estate. In case she should remain a widow until my estate is to be divided amongst my children, as herein directed, that their, each child shall_____ _______y the legacy herein expressed enter into said willed security? for the punctual? annual payment of their proportion of the said sum of fifty dollars. I desire that this legacy may be considered no ill? b___g ______o and that it may bar her (my wife Elizabeth) from and every other right, or title, she may claim, to my estate or any part thereof. Item: I give unto my Executors hereafter named right to apply such part of my estate, as they may think proper, to the education of my children or any of them ,provided they do not touch land or negroes. Lastly, I do appoint my friends Benjamin Blunt and Richard Blunt, Executors of this my Last Will and Testament.
