Will: Matthew Jones, Nottoway Parish, Southampton Co, VA

IN THE NANE OF GOD AMEN, I Matthew Jones of the Parish of Nottoway in the
county of Southampton being weak in body but of sound mind memory and
judgement, blessed be God, and well knowing the uncertainty of this life,
do this 26th day of July in the year of our Lord 1793, make, ordain, publish
and declare this instrument of writing to be my last will and testament.

First, I give and bequeath unto my son Albrighton Jones and his heirs of his
body lawfully begotten forever all my lands lying and being on the Fath of
Blacks water & Nottoway Rivers siutate in the County of Southampton which 
land was left me by my father.  Also I give and bequeath to my said son All
Jones the following negroes (to wit): Roger, Jean, Phillis and Patt.  I say
I give the above negroes to him my said son All Jones and his lawfull heirs
forever.

Also I give and bequeath unto my daughter Sarah Jones and her heirs forever
the following negros (to wit): Doll, James, Ampry and Jacob.

Also I give unto my daughter Ann Jones and her heirs forever the following
negros, namely: Moses, Sarah, Fanny and Charles.

Also I give unto my daughter Elizabeth Jones and her heirs forever the
following negros, namely: Lue, Cato, Judith and Doll's youngest child
which is not yet ran? (named?).

Also I give and bequeath unto my sister (in) law Jarrile and her heirs
forever one negro girll call'd Amey.

Also it is my will & desire that all my stock of whatever kind soever
be sold as well as my household & kitchen furniture _________(unreadable)
credit and the money arising from the sale be apropriated to the payment
s... just debts.

And lastly I do nominate and appoint my brother Albridgton Jones my whole
and sole Executor as well as guardian to my son Albridgton Jones daughters
Sarah Ann & Elizabeth.

IN WITNESS whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal the
day & year first above written.

               At a Court held for the County of Southampton
                      the 12th day of September 1793

This Will was presented in Court by All Jones, the Executor therin named
and prov'd by the oaths of Lewis Joiner, George Camp and Joshua Joiner,
three of the witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded.  And on the 
motion of said Executor who made oath according to law, Certificate is
granted him for obtaining a Probat thereof in due form giving security
whereupon &c.
