SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY, VA - WILLS AND ESTATES - William Jones, 22 Jul 1793 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN, I William Jones of Southampton County & state of Virginia being very sick & weak of body but of sound and disposing mind & memory, thanks be to almighty God for the same, and calling to mind the uncertainty of this life & knowing that it is appointed once for all men to die, do make & ordain this my Last Will & Testament in manner & form following: Imprimis: I give and bequeath unto Nancy Simmons, daughter of Mason Simmons, my negro man Darry & his wife Beck & their two sons Ned & Tim & my negro girl Nanny and future increase of them, to her & to her heirs forever. Item: I give & bequeath unto Henry & P. Westbrooke, sons of Passons Westbrooke, one negro girl Tabb & her increase to her & heirs forever. Item: I give & bequeath unto Mason Simmons Westbrooke, daughter of said Passons Westbrook my negro girl Nele & her increase to her & heirs forever. I give and bequeath unto Richard H. Simmons, son of William Simmons, my negro man Pompey & boy Amos, to him & his heirs forever. Item: I lend the use of my old wench Amy to my mother during her natural life & after her death for her to pass to my brother Edwin Simmons, to him & his heirs forever. Item: I give and bequeath unto my brother Edwin Simmons my negro man Tong & the use & labor of my negro wench Eady & her son Bob untill his oldest daughter shall come of lawfull age or marriage & then for the said wench to pass to her absolutely & for her futer (future) increase then to be divided equally between the rest of his children to them & each of them separately & destinctly & their heirs forever. Item: I give and bequeath unto my brother Edwin Simmons all my lands & its appurtenances & my riding horse to him & is heirs forever. Item: My will & desire is that after all my just debts are paid that the remainder of my estate be equally divided between my brother William Simmons & Edwin Simmons, to them & their heirs forever. Lastly, I constitute & appoint my two brothers William & Edwin Simmons my whole & sole Executors to this my Last Will & Testament revoking & disannulling all former Will or Wills by me hitherto made & allowing this & no other to be my Last Will & Testament. IN WITNESS whereof I have hereunto set my hand & affixed my seal this 22nd day of July 1793.
