At a Court held for the County of Southampton on Thursday the 12 Day of September 1751 This Writing was sworn to by Ann Matthews the Extrix. therein named & on her Motion It was Ordered to be Recorded and a Certificate was granted her for obtaining a probate on the Goods and Chattels of the within named Hugh Matthews giving Security according to Law. Test. R. Kello CC Notes: It is curious that Hugh is styled "of Southampton" since the county was not created until 1749. Hugh Matthews' first wife was Martha Johnson, daughter of John Johnson of Isle of Wight County, VA (will devised 1703, probated 1707). Hugh Matthews and Martha Johnson were married before 1715, as shown by a deed. Hugh's second wife was Ann ____, mentioned in the will. They were married between 1738 and 1747, as Martha was mentioned in a deed in 1738, but Ann is named as wife in 1747. Contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Mark Valsame .
