All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ John MERCER, will, 25 Jul 1775 (pr'd 14 Dec 1775) account current, 1776 (pr'd 17 Mar 1794) [margin note] Mercer John ~ Will In the name of God amen I John Mercer of the County of Southampton Virginia being sick and weak but of sound mind and perfect memory do make [&] ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form as follow eth Firstly I give to my son John Mercer the Plantation that he now has in his possession with all profits thereon [page break] [in modern pen, p.] 137 Secondly I give to my daughter Patty Lowe my loom with all the slays and harness belonging to it 3dly I give to my son James Mercer my plantation that I now live on Also my Apple Mill Also my negro wench nan and my negro Boy Lewis 4thly I Give to my daughter Patience Mercer Six Pounds 5thly I Give to my daughter Betty Mercer Six Pounds 6thly I Give to my daughter Grace Mercer Six Pounds And it is my will and desire that before my estate is devided that there may be purchased for my three young est daughters such articles as shall here mention twelve and three quarter yards of linnen to be devided among them Also a cloak for Betty Mercer and a cloak and Wall or Bonnett for Grace Mercer and it is my will and desire that the remainder part of my estate should be equally Devided between my six children John Mercer Paty Lowe James Mercer Patience Mercer Betty Mercer and Grace Mercer And I do further appoint John Mercer and John Pursell my sole Executors of this my last will and testament and I do hereby revoke and make void all former wills by me heretofore made and I do establish this to be my last will and testament in Witness whereof I have here unto set my hand and affixed my seal the 25th day of July in one thousand seven hundred seventy five Signed Sealed & his delivered in the presence John x Mercer of us his Mark Benjamin x Crumpler Mark his John x Britt Mark John Crumpler At a court held for the county of Southampton the 14th day of December 1775 This Will was presented in court by John Mercer and John Pursell Executors therein named and proved by the oaths of Benjamin Crumpler and John Crumpler two of the witnesses and, order'd to be recorded and on the motion of the Ex'tors who made oath accord ing to law certificat is granted them for obtaining a probat thereof in due form giving security &c.
