SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY, VA - WILLS AND ESTATES - John Meglamre, 15 May 1797 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN, I John Meglamre of the County of Southampton and state of Virginia being in helth and perfect in my mind memory and understanding, but nowing the mortil state of all men and to prevent all contentions after my departure, I have thaught fit to apoint this my last will and testament. Item: I lend unto my wife Letty the use of my plantation and all the utenshals belonging thereunto with all my stock of every cine (kind) during her life or widhood (widowhood) and 5 negros Cuper, Grge, Silas, Sue, Sam. Item: I give and bequeath unto my son John after his mothers death all my land and plantation and likewaes my negros namely: Hago, Atamm, Sam and all the increase from the darght? hearof to him and his heares for ever. Item: I lend to my daughter Sally Whitehorn one negro boy cal'd David and fifty pounds dureing her natural life and then to be equally divided amongst her children. Item: I give and bequeath to my daughter Betty Baley two negros to wit: Frery? & James to her and to her heirs forever. Item: I give and bequeath to my daughter Betty one hors cald Alborock, one feather bed and furniture and two negroes, to wit: Silas and Sue after the death of her mother and to the heirs lawfully begottin of her body. Item: I give and bequ (unfinished) provided she shall live to come of age a negro girl cald Silvy and to heairs for ever to my grand daughter Nancy Lunday. Item: My will is that my negro man Cuper shall be freed at the death of my wife. Item: My will is that all the rest of my estate shall be equelly divided between my sons renouncing all former Wills I hereby do declare and pronounce this to be my Last Will and Testament. IN WITNESS whereof I have hereunto set my hand and fixt my seal this fiftenth day of May one thousand seven hundred and ninety seven.
