SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY, VA - WILLS AND ESTATES - Mary Murray, 17 Jan 1791 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN, I Mary Murray of the County of Southampton & state of Virginia bieng in perfect sound sense & memory do ordain & make this my last will & testament Vc Vi Item: I lend unto my daughter Elizabeth Smith one hundred & thirteen acres of land adjoining Benjamin Barhams land which said land I formerly purchased of the said Barham, also four negroes, to wit: Len, Molley, Edy and Dina with their increase, likewise one black horse, ten cattle, ten sheep & one third part of the hogs which shall be found of mine at my decease; under my new mark; also two walnut tables, one walnut desk & looking blass, two beds, & furniture, two chests, two trunks, one case of bottles, one copper kettle, two iron pots, one dutch oven & sundry small necessaries. The intent & meaning of this, my Last Will & Testament is that I lend the above land & slaves, as also the ennumerated articles to my daughter Elizabeth Smith during her natural life for her & her son William Alexander Smiths support & maintenance agreeable to my aforesaid daughters will & pleasure. At the decease of my daughter Elizabeth Smith, lend the aforesaid land, slaves & articles unto my grandson William Alexander Smith & his heirs lawfully begotten of his body but in case he, the said William Alexander Smith, should die without lawfully issue, then the aforesaid land, slaves & articles to return to the nearest in blood to his mother Elizabeth Smith. Item: The residue of my stock of cattle &c under my new mark & whatever else of mine or wheresoever found after my decease to be equally divided between Mary Hasswood & Sarah Maget or the heirs of their bodies. And I further direct and desire that there be no inventory or appraisment taken of my estate. My last will and desire is that John Hasswood, William Maget & Elizabeth Smith dec'd? & qualify as Executors &c this my Last Will and Testament, hereby revoking anulling & making void all other Wills by me heretofore made. IN WITNESS whereof, I the Testator, hath hereunto set my hand & affixed my seal this seventeenth day of January & in the year our Lord Christ one thousand seven hundred and ninety one. And At a Court held for the County of Southampton the 13th day of September 1792 On the motion of John Simmons Sr? who made oath according to law, Certificate is granted him for obtaining letters of administration with this Will annexed (the Executors refusing to qualify) on the estate of the said decedent giving security whereupon &c.
