SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY, VA - WILLS AND ESTATES - Patience Newsum, 1 Jun 1798 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Will: Patience Newsum, St.Lukes Parish, Southampton Co, VA (1798) IN THE NAME OF GOD Amen, I Patience Newsum of the county of Southampton and Parish of St. Lukes, being weak in body but in perfect mind & memory, and knowing that its appointed that all shall die, do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following: Imprimis: My will and desires is that the goods and chattles heretofore lent by me to Isham Newsom and Sally his wife, consisting of nine head of cattle, their increase, one bay horse, two feather beds and furniture, five chairs, one spinning wheel, two seal trunks, one looking glass, five plates, two desks, three basons, half dozen cases, one pair hand irons, one iron pott rack, one water pale, and two iron potts be granted and given to the use of my said daughter Sally Newsum during her life and then to be equally divided between Martha Gilliam and Elizabeth Newsum, to them and their heirs forever. Item: My wish and desire that the goods and chattles heretofore lent by me to Martha Taylor for her comfort be at his death equally divided between my five grand daughters (to wit) Nancy, Sally, Betsy, Mary, Lucy Taylor, to them and their heirs forever. Item: I give to my grand daughter Nancy Taylor my desk and its contents , to her and her heirs forever. Item: I give my trunk to Patsy G. Newsum, to her and her heirs forever. Item: I give and bequeath my saddle and bridle to Sally Taylor, my grand daughter. The rest and residue of my estate not heretofore devised, I will it after my just debts & funeral expences are paid to be equally divided between my two daughters Martha Taylor & Sally Newsum's children. I do hereby revoke all former Wills by me made & do ordain this my Last Will and Testament and as do by these presents nominate & appoint my trusty friend Thomas Jones Executor to this my Last (Will & Testament).
