SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY, VA - WILLS AND ESTATES - John Person, 1 Dec 1798 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN, I John Person of Southampton County being of sound mind and disposing memory tho weak of body do make and ordain this my last will and testament in the manner and form following: Imprimis: Tis my desire that my body shall be buried decently agreeable to the form establish'd by ancient free Masons. Item: I give and bequeath to my nephew John Anthony Person and his heirs all the land and plantation whereon I now live, provided he arrives to the age of twenty one years or has a lawful issue, otherwise, tis my desire the land should be sold and the money accruing to be equally divided between the surviving children of Henry Person & Polly Peson, namely: Rebeckah, Elizabeth, & Polly Person. Item: Provided my niece Marianne Person arrives to the age of twenty one or has lawful issue, I give and confirm unto her the following negroes: Nan, Aabel, Tempy, Kezia & Phillips and their future increase forever, but if she does not arrive to that age, nor have a lawful issue, tis my desire the said negroes should (be) returned to my estate and they, with Jacob, David, Harry, Hannah, Suey, Bill, Judiah, Lucy, Hannah, George, Gill, Rhena, Israel & Patience & their future increase shall be equally divided between Rebeckah Person, Elizabeth Person, Polly Person, & John Anthony Person whenever either of them shall marry or arrive to the age of twenty one years. Item: I give my niece Elizabeth Person six table & six tea silver spoons. Item: I lend all my household furniture and all my stock of horses, cattle, hogs & sheep and all the residue of my estate not heretofore mentioned to Henry Person to support and educate the aforesaid children until the division of the negroes, then the remaining part of any to be sold and equally divided in the same manner as the negroes. Tis my desire that the five hundred acres of land, more or less, lying on the Angelica Swamp shall be sold and equally divided among the aforesaid legalees as soon as my title is established. Finally, I do hereby constitute and appoint Henry Person the whole & sole Executor of this my Last Will and Testament.
