SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY, VA - WILLS AND ESTATES - Jesse Pope, 22 Oct 1791 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN, I Jesse Pope of the County of Southampton being weak in body but of sound and disposing mind and memory, thanks be to God, do make & publish this writing as & for my last will & testament in manner & form following, that is to say: First, I give and bequeath to my son Nathaniel Pope, the land that he now lives on to be bounded as follows: beginning at Hicory, a corner tree of Nathan Barnes's, Amos Joyner and from thence a strait line to the flat branch where the path now crosses and down the said branch to Evans Popes line, to him and his heirs forever. Item: I lend the west room of the house that I now live on to my two daughters Jinny & Mary Pope as long as they live unmarried, also lend them as much ground as is sufficient to make them cotton upon, I also give to my two daughters Jinny & Mary Pope each of them a feather bed and furniture and cow & calf to each to them forever. Item: I give and bequeath to my son David Pope the remainder of my land undispos'd of also my colt & feather bed & furniture to him and his heirs forever. Item: I give and bequeath to my daughter Hannal Beal one cow & calf. Item: My will and desire is that the remainder of my estate undispos'd of to be equally divided between John, Zedekiah, Jesse, Hannah, Jinny and Mary Pope. And I do hereby appoint my son Nathaniel Pope & Asa Beal Executors of this my Last Will and Testament. IN WITNESS whereof I Jesse Pope have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this twenty second day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety one.
