SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY, VA - WILLS AND ESTATES - John Pursell, 5 Sep 1799 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Will: John Pursell, Nottoway Parish, Southampton Co, VA (1799) IN THE NAME OF GOD Amen, I John Pursell of the county of Southampton & Parish of Nottoway, being sick & weak in body but of perfect sound mind & memory do make & ordain this to be my last will & testament in manner & form as followeth: Item, I give unto my son Arthur Pursell 275 acres of land lying on the south side of my plantation, beginning at a red oak of mine & Valentine Jenkins' line to down the said Jenkins line to the main run of Black Water River and up the said river to the upper end of my fathers ware? gully & so down the said gully to the nearest place of the high land and from thence as straight a line as can be made through the woods to the begining red oak. Also one mare called Bixkin and one feather bed & furniture & one small gun, also one small trunk to him and his heirs forever. Item, I give unto my son Peter Pursell the remainder part of land contained in my patent. Also together with one sorrell mare & colt, one feather bed & furniture, also twenty barrels of corn & my large gun & one small trunk to him and his heirs forever. Item, (I) give unto my daughter Mary Pursel fifty pounds to be rais'd out of my estate, also one feather bed & furniture, one desk & one large trunk and further it is my will and desire that after my just debts is paid that the remainder part of my estate to be equally divided between my three children, namely: Arthur, Peter & Mary. But further, it is my will and desire that if either of my sons should die without lawful mail heir that land should return to the surviving mail heir that is then living, to them and their heirs forever. And further, I do appoint my two sons Arthur and Peter my hole and sole Executors of this my Last Will and Testament.
