I Mary Ricks senior of Southampton county being in perfect Sense and memory do constitute this as my last will and testament Firstly I give and bequeath to my Son Thomas Ricks Ten pounds lawfull money of Virginia to him and his heirs for ever Secondly I give and bequeath to my Son Robert Ricks five shillings current money of Virginia to him and his heirs for ever. Thirdly I give and bequeath to my Son Richard Ricks all the land which I have leased during s.d lease of the Nansemond Indians together with all which I have possess'd him with also one Cow to him his heirs and assigns, for ever. Fourthly I give and bequeath to my Son Joseph Ricks all which I have possess'd him with to him his heirs and assigns, for ever. Fifthly I give & bequeath to my three daughters, Mary Ricks, Melisent Ricks & Ann Ricks all the remainder part of my Estate of what nature soever to them their heirs and assigns for ever. Sign'd, seal'd & acknowledged before us Mary Ricks ĪSealĪ Lemuel Hart Josiah West Cathen At a court held for the county of Southampton the 10.th day of February 1785 This will was proved by the oaths of Lemuel Hart and Josiah West Cathen witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded. And on the motion of Robert Ricks and Richard Ricks who made affirmation according to law (being of the people called Quakers) letters of administration with the will annexed are granted them on the said Estate giving Security. His estate was appraised 11 Oct 1764, returned 12 Jul 1770. (Southampton Co. His sisters emancipated their slaves 27 Sep 1782- Anne one, Melisent five, and Mary four. All four deeds were presented in 12 Dec 1782.
