SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY, VA - WILLS AND ESTATES - John Reese, 1 Dec 1792 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Will: John Reese, Southampton Co, VA (1792) IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN, I John Reese of the County of Southampton & Parish of St. Lukes being in perfect sense & memory, thanks be to almighty God for the same, but at the same time considering that all men must die & not knowing how soon it may be my lot, do think this the most proper time to make this my last will & testament. First, I give my soul to God who gave it me hoping that he will receive it into his mansions of bliss & my body to it Mother earth to be decently buried and as to my worldy goods which it hath please god to bestow upon me, I dispose of in the following manner, viz: I lend unto my beloved wife Mary Reese during her natural life or widowhood, all my land likewise her four choise of all my negros which I may have at my death likewise the two? choise of my horses & six choise of cattle, three choist feather beds & furniture, twenty choice of my hogs, fifty barrels of corn and all the remainder of my estate wheresoever it may be found be sold & twelve months credit alow'd & the money arising from the sale be equally divided between my children as follows, to wit: Randolph Reese, Rogers Reese, Rivers Reese, Reubin Reese, Rowel Reese, John Reese, Joseph Reese, Patty Morgan, wife of Matthew Morgan, Mary Thorpe, wife of John Thorpe, Selah Adams, wife of Benjamin Adams Jr, to them & their heirs forever. I give and bequeath unto my beloved daughter Lucy Johnson five shillings. I give and bequeath to my beloved daughter Sally Ivy, wife of Benjamin Ivy, 5/ to her & her heirs (I don't know if the straight line after the 5 stands for shillings or something else). I give & bequeath to my belov'd daughter Sucky Ivy, wife of Philip, five shillings to her & his heirs forever. It is my will & desire at the death or marriage of my beloved wife, Mary Reese, that all ______lent unto her both real & personal be sole at twelve months credit & the money arising from the sale be equally divided between my children as follows: Randolph Reese, Rogers Reese, Reubin Reese, Rowel Reese, John Reese, Joseph Reese, Patty Morgan, wife of Matthew Morgan, Mary Thorpe, wife of John Thorpe, Selah Adams, wife of Benjamin Adams Jr, & in case ither (either) of my children shoud die under the age of twenty one and without lawful issue, there portion to be equally divided between the remainder part of my ten children last nam'd in this my Last Will & Testament to them & there heirs forever. However, I do lastly apoint my beloved sons Randolph Reese & Roger Reese & my friend Henry Thorpe my hole & sole Executors to this my Last Will & Testament hereby making null and void all former Wills & bequeaths heretofour made by me & constituting this & no other to be my Last Will & Testament.
