SCOTT, will, 23 Feb 1797 (18 May 1818) [margin notes] M. Scott Will I Miriam Scott of Southampton county Virginia being weak of body but of Sound and perfect mind and memory Knowing the uncertainty of this transitory life do think proper to make this my last Will and testament in manner and form following to wit, First I give devise and bequeath to my son James Scott all my plantations, Lands, Tenements and hereditaments what =Soever to me belonging or in any wise appertaining whether in possession remainder or reversion to him, and to his heirs and assigns forever also my best feather bed and furniture one gun one large looking glass one buffet [page break] [p.] (400 Also I give devise and bequeath to my daughter Anne Pretlow the sum of two hundred and one pounds ten Shillings Current money of Virginia, to her and to her heirs and assigns forever also the following debts Viz.t one due from Henry Briggs by bond bearing date April the eight day one thousand seven Hundred and ninty Six for the Sum of one hundred and Six pounds five shillings current money of Virginia and a debt due from James Wright Secured by Deed of Trust bearing date September the ninth one thousand Seven hundred and ninety for the Sum of Thirty four pounds three Shillings and two pence half penny current money of Virginia, to her and to her heirs and assigns ["forever" struck] But on the Special condition that my said Daughter Anne Shall furnish and Supply her son Joseph Pretlow with an annual Support adequate to the interest arising and received on the Said debts, and Shall on the Said Joseph Pretlow's arriving to the full age of twenty one years (in case he ever attains that age) deliver or pay the Said debts, or the money received in payment of them unto my grandson the Joseph Pretlow. Also I give devise and bequeath to my daughter Sarah Bailey the Sum of twelve pounds current money of Virginia to her and to her heirs and assigns forever Also all the residue, and remainder of my estate after my just debts are paid, I give to be equally divided between my Son James Scott and my daughter Anne Pretlow to them and to their heirs forever Also I do nominate constitute and appoint my son James Scott and my daughter Anne Pretlow executor and executrix to this my last will and Testament and I do hereby revoke and disannul all former wills, constituting this and no other to be my last will and testament. In witness. whereof I have hereunto Set my hand and Seal this twenty third day of February A.D. one thousand Seven hundred and ninety Seven.
