SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY, VA - WILLS AND ESTATES - Aaron Smith, 4 Feb 1798 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Will: Aaron Smith, St. Lukes Parish, Southampton Co, VA (1798) IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN, I Aaron Smith of the County of Southampton and Parish of St. Lukes, being sick and weak of body but of sound mind and disposing memory, do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following: My will and desire is that the whole of my estate should be held together (except cash) for the education of my children until my son Thomas Smith arrives to the age of twenty one years, then I lend to my beloved wife Rebecca Smith the whole of my personal estate that is, my household and kitchen furniture, plantation utensils and stock of all kinds during her natural life and when my son Thomas Smith arrives to the age of twenty years, I desire that the whole of my negroes should be equally divided (between) my wife and children and my wifes part to be returned at her death and be equally divided between my three children: William Turner Smith, Thomas Smith and Polly Smith to them and their heirs forever. My will and desire is that at the death of my wife that my land & plantation should be sold by my Executors when I shall thereafter appoint and the money arising from such sale be equally divided between my children, to them and their heirs forever. My will and desire is that if the profits of my estate in possession of my wife and the interest of my money not be sufficient for schooling and educating my two sons William Turner Smith and Thomas Smith gentilelly, I give my Executors power or their guardians to take as much of my principal as may be sufficient for that purpose. My will and desire that all my open accounts should be bonded by my Executors as quick as possible and my just debts paid out of them and the balance to be kept in the banks of my Executors or my representative until my son Thomas Smith arrives to the age of twenty one years, then an equal division to take place in the said bank thats remaining between my children William Turner Smith, Thomas Smith and Polly Smith to them and their heirs forever. Lastly, I do constitute and appoint my friend Thomas Holliday & Benjamin Blunt Jr the whole and sole Executors of this my Last Will & Testament. WITNESS MY HAND & seal this 4th day of February 1798 . And At a Court held for the County of Southampton the 16th day of July 1798 This Will was fully prov'd by the oaths of James B. Womack & David Westbrook, witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded.
