SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY, VA - WILLS AND ESTATES - Charles Speed, 20 Sep 1798 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN, I Charles Speed of the county of Southampton and state of Virginia, being sick & weak of body but of sound & disposing mind & memory do make & ordain this to be my last will & testament in manner & form following: Imprimis: I give & bequeath unto my grand children Sucky, Dicky, Milly Speed, children of my son Henry Speed, dec'd, the sum of six shillings each current money of Virginia. I give & beequeath to my son William Speed six shillings current money of Virginia. I leave the use of my land & plantation & all my personal estate of what nature or kind soever unto my loving wife during her natural life or widowhood & for her ____ such part of my personal estate, if necessary as she may think proper for the payment of my just debts & above legacies & for the support of herself & my son Thomas Speed during her natural life or widowhood & after the death or widowhood of my said wife, my will & desire is & I hereby give & bequeath the estate lent to my beloved wife Jinny Speed both real & personal as may then be left to my said son Thomas Speed & his heirs forever. In case my said son Thomas Speed shall die before having lawful heir begotten of his body, then, it (in) that case, the land hereby given to him is to descend & pass to my grandson Charles Speed, provided that event happen after the death of my said wife Jinny Speed & until that event does happen & is not to descend to my said grandson Charles Speed & if said son Thomas should die without lawful issue, son of William Speed to him, his heirs, the personal estate then remaining to be equally divided between my grand children: Dicky & Milly Speed, children of Henry & Rhoda & Patience Speed, children of ________.(off the paper) Lastly, I appoint my friends Charles Briggs & Henry Briggs Executors to this my Last Will & Testament revoking & disannulling all former Will or Wills by me hitherto made and allowing this and no other to be my Last Will and Testament.
