SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY, VA - WILLS AND ESTATES - Henry Summerell, 4 Oct 1801 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN, I Henry Summerell of the county of Southampton being sick and weak in body but of perfect mind and memory, thanks be given unto God, therefore calling into mind the mortality of my body and the salvation of my soul and knowing it is appointed for all men once to die do make and ordain this my last will and testament, vizt: Principally and first of all I recommend my soul to the hands of God who gave it nothing doubting but I shall receive the same again in the general resurrection by the mighty power of God and for my body I recommend to the earth to be buried in a christian like and decent manner at the discretion of my Executors and as touching such worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me with in this life, I give, desire, and dispose of in the following manner: Imprimis: As the true intent and meaning of the respective land in the first place, if the child my wife is now pregnant with is a boy, my will and desire is that three good men shall be appointed by the court to run a line through my said land and equally divide it according to the value? thereof. If the said child my wife is pregnant with is a girl, I give and bequeath unto my son Josiah H. Summerell the whole of my land after paying my daughter Rebecah Summerell and the child aforesaid the sum of one hundred and fifty dollars each, and if the aforesaid child as above should be a boy, my desire is that my son Josiah H. Summerell shall take his choice of my saw land after the division as above mentioned and the child my wife is now pregnant with, if a boy, I give and bequeath unto him the blance of my land, to him and his heirs forever after each of my sons, as above mentioned, do pay my daughter Rebeccah Summerell the sum of one hundred and fifty dollars good and lawful money of Virginia. Item: I lend unto my loving wife Diannah Summerell the whole residue of my property after my just debts are paid during her natural life or widowhood and at my said wifes marriage or death my desire is that the said lent property unto my wife shall be equally divided amongst the whole of my children. I do constitute and appoint William Holden and Silas Summerell my whole and sole Executors of this my Last Will and Testament.
